Cheesy Garlic Biscuits

Cheesy Garlic Biscuits

Biscuits are a quick, throw-together bread that can be served with many different types of suppers, from casseroles, to soups, to many more! This recipe has a nice strong garlic herb flavour, and the cheese tops it off, of course!

Buttermilk biscuits are my favourite! They generally are nice and flakey without getting dry.

If you don’t yet have a pastry cutter here is a link to a good one. This is great for biscuits, pies or any other pastries you may make.

My husband gifted me with this biscuit cutter this year for Christmas and I am excited to have different sizes. These can also be used to make donuts!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups flour

  • 1 Tbsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic

  • 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning

  • 1 tsp chili flakes

  • 1 tsp granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup cold butter

  • 1/2 cup cubed cheddar cheese

  • 1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp cold buttermilk (divided)

  • 2 Tbsp melted butter

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 425℉. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • Mix flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, garlic, Italian seasoning, chili flakes and sugar in a bowl.
  • Cube the butter and add it to the bowl. Cut it into the dry ingredients with a pastry cutter. Combine it until you have something resembling coarse crumbs.
  • Add the cheese and 1/2 cup of buttermilk. Mix it together until combined but do not over mix it. (Add more buttermilk if needed.)
  • Put the dough onto a floured surface and knead approximately 3 times and then flatten until about 1/2-3/4 inch. Use a biscuit cutter or glass and cut the biscuits. Work with the scraps until you have about 6-8 biscuits.
  • Place on prepared baking sheet and brush with reserved buttermilk. Bake for 15 -17 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Brush with melted butter and enjoy warm!
